Three recent poems speaking to the experience of this weary poet.
Rainbow
Glass shards reflect off a man
once blessed, but hiding broken
from a world that may never understand.
Picking up pieces with nowhere to go
mistakes all my making
weighing heavy on a weary soul.
An open heart flooded love with pain,
hardening the walls around
with numbed emotions that can’t be named.
Afraid of life giving away to time
before being given the chance
to release the tears trapped in my eyes.
Praying for storms on a sunny day,
lightning crashes, but if clouds can break
maybe a rainbow will whisper it’s okay.
Language of the Heart
Show me the songs
written for your soul,
where memories replay
in the darkest hours of night.
Let me close my eyes
and fade into your world,
meeting in a place
where love lived out of sight.
A language of the heart,
each word tells a story.
Snippets of the world
we once claimed to know.
Shadows of the past
left behind by time,
each song a reminder
we are meant to grow.
Safe Haven
My love is never loud
but it’s a presence that never leaves.
A safe haven for your heart
nurturing your spirit to fly free.
Like roots beneath the forest
staying sturdy when seasons change.
I’ll be the silence holding space
when all the world forgets your name.
In the moments your voice trembles
my echo reminds you you’re not alone.
Fear can’t penetrate the walls
we build together as our home.
Reflecting back your light
on the days stars forget to shine.
Hand in hand through the darkness
on a journey of two souls intertwined.
