“Let go of your worries
and be completely clear-hearted,
like the face of a mirror
that contains no images.
If you want a clear mirror,
behold yourself
and see the shameless truth,
which the mirror reflects.
If metal can be polished
to a mirror-like finish,
what polishing might the mirror
of the heart require?
Between the mirror and the heart
is this single difference:
the heart conceals secrets,
while the mirror does not.”
-Rumi, Let Go of Your Worries
The way it happened is the only way it could have been.
Why?
Because it happened as it did.
Fixation on the past occurs for good reason.
We are meant to analyze and understand our past to develop greater wisdom for our experiences in the present.
The mind is a tool of self-reflection, and when mastered, can become our greatest ally in becoming the person we’re meant to be.
However, how can anything turn to ‘should have’ if you actually believe your experiences are working towards your betterment?
Did we have the full scope of knowledge and experience when making previous decisions? Of course not.
However, what good would this wisdom be if you never earned it through experience?
Every person comes into your life for the reason that they do.
Love will never die, even if it turns out that person was only meant to occupy space temporarily.
Even so, regardless of how it ended, the wisdom gained from the love shared is timeless in its nature.
If you want to know your greatest strength, you must look to your greatest wounds.
Your scars tell a story of experience.
Have you ever truly lived if you’ve never put yourself out there with vulnerability?
Pain will make you want to give up and start anew.
Realistically, this is just a call for the old self to die and be released.
In the ending of your last chapter, so too came the ending of who you once was.
You’re not the same person anymore, but all that fell aside were illusionary parts of you that were not meant to be held.
You can now proceed with a deeper understanding of your true nature, acting closer in alignment with who you really are.
However, from the ashes you must rise.
In this lifetime, you will have to put your heart on the line again and again.
To choose to live is to choose to love, and to choose to love is to subject oneself to grief.
This is an inescapable phenomena, a part of the human experience recorded since the dawn of time.
You’re not that much different than those who came before you, as the human spectrum of emotions is truly limited in its bandwidth.
However, the paradox of this is that love is infinite in its capacity when you continually choose it in the face of adversity.
Allow yourself to let go of fear, regret and shame.
As long as you hold them, love is not a choice you can consciously make.
The gift of the past is that it can be put behind you, while still being drawn upon for experiential wisdom.
Let go completely.
This moment is exactly the one your entire life has been building up to.
Can you find it within yourself to know this?
There’s only one way to find out.
